街の交流をうながす喫茶店
スペシャルティコーヒー専門店「堀口珈琲」の既存店舗の改修です。狛江店は1999年に堀口珈琲の2号店として開店し、焙煎も行うロースタリー・カフェとして20年以上地域に根ざしてきました。2019年に横浜ロースタリーが完成し、焙煎機の代わりにショップインベーカリー（AOSAN https://aosan628.thebase.in/）がオープンするなど、近年地域での役割が変化していきました。狛江店が目指したのは、長年地元で親しまれてきた馴染み客のニーズに応えながら新しい感性で顧客層を広げ、加えて文化サロンとして集いや学びの場を新たに提供することでした。
中央の大きな柱を囲むようにカウンターを配置しました。カウンター内部を効率的なオープンキッチンとし、その外側にさまざまなタイプの客席（テーブル席・カウンター席・ソファ席等）を広さや日当たりなどの環境の違いに応じて設えを変えました。いびつで見通しがききづらい店舗の平面形状を逆手にとって、曲面の土壁で奥へ奥へと引き込む洞窟のような空間としました。こうして包まれた落ち着きのある空間の中に、行き止まりを感じさせない回遊性と、場所ごとに性格が異なる滞留性が共存する空間が生まれました。
Renovation of an
existing store of specialty coffee shop "Horiguchi Coffee". The Komae
store opened in 1999 as Horiguchi Coffee's second shop, and has been rooted in
the area for over 20 years as a roastery and cafe. The role in the town has
changed in recent years, after Yokohama Roastery was completed in 2019 and a
shop-in-bakery (AOSAN https://aosan628.thebase.in/) opened in place of the
roaster. The goal of the Komae shop was to explore the new customers with new sensibilities
as well as to meet the needs of old customers who have been a familiar part of
the local community for many years, and to also provide a new place for
gathering and learning as a cultural salon.
Counters were placed around a large pillar in the center.
The inside of the counter functions as an efficient open kitchen, and various
types of seating (table seats, counter seats, sofa seats, etc.) can be arranged
around the counter depending on the situation, such as scale of the space,
natural sunlight etc. Taking advantage of the store's distorted floor plan that
makes it difficult to see through, we created a cave-like space with curved
earthen walls that leads you deeper and deeper into the space. In this way, an enveloped and calming space was created,
where the ability to move around and stay together coexisted.
